偉大的一張專輯之誕生源自於人對於音樂與愛的渴望，來自紐約的鋼琴家安東尼．德馬雷(Anthony de Mare)將他對於美國音樂劇界的音樂巨人史蒂芬．桑坦(Stephen Sondheim)的欽慕化為行動，執行了這個無與倫比的特別音樂企劃《聯絡：對於桑坦的重新想像》(Liaisons: Re-Imagining Sondheim)。

Anthony de Mare邀請分別來自七個國家、年齡層從30至75歲、共擁有29個普立茲獎、格萊美獎、東尼獎、奧斯卡獎以及艾美獎、總計高達36位來自各個領域的頂尖作曲家們分頭將Stephen Sondheim的音樂劇傑作重新編曲並且以鋼琴獨奏的形式來呈現。

「當我聽到Anthony跟我說他想做的這個計畫時我感到非常的興奮且充滿好奇。」Stephen Sondheim如是說。「其中有些作曲家對我來說是新面孔、其中也不乏老朋友、還有些是我聆聽過且熟悉的樂曲、但我卻沒有見過本人的。而幾乎所有由他們改編的作品都令我驚訝無比，聽到這些作曲家的成果令我著迷不已。」

每首曲子皆是作曲家們與Stephen Sondheim所進行的想像和對話，其中含括了主流爵士、前衛、極簡主義、當代古典等不同的音樂風格類型，最後再由Anthony de Mare個人將這些獨特的聲音整合並且擔綱奏，發行了這套以3CD套裝組合而成、意義非凡且才華洋溢的跨領域、流派、風格和想像的天馬行空之作。
